Consignor’s Online Auction of Works on Paper, Prints & Books is a fantastic place to begin for someone new to the world of collecting art. The February sale offers a selection of prints, drawings, oil and watercolour paintings, photography and books to choose from in a broad range of prices, for both the emerging and seasoned collector. Purchasing a work on paper is often a more affordable opportunity to own an original work of art, or a print by a prominent artist whose original works are less accessible.
Presented below are some great examples of quality artworks offered in the February auction, all of which have estimates below $1000. Browse by your preferred subject matter, from calming landscapes, still lifes and street scenes to bold abstracts and expressive figural works. Keep in mind there is a total of 237 lots in the auction, so please visit our online catalogue for the entire selection.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind…
-The estimate is our prediction of the selling price based on previous sales of similar works at auction – however, it is possible for the work to sell for a price lower (or higher) than the estimate. Check the online listing for the lot you’re interested in to see current bid.
-A buyer’s premium of 18% and applicable taxes are added to the final selling price of an artwork – something to factor in when placing a bid.
-Many artworks are framed, while others are not. Frames can be pricey – often several hundred dollars for a custom frame. Although the frame does not affect Consignor’s estimated value of an artwork, it does affect the total amount a buyer will spend on an artwork to hang in their home.
-You can request a condition report online to obtain specific details about the condition of an artwork, which can vary for works on paper, and affects any future conservation or restoration that may be needed.
Why Buy at Auction?
The quality and value of artworks sold at auction are often far superior to something of the same price at a commercial gallery or retail store. Auction prices reflect fair market value, whereas galleries set a higher, retail price for an artwork. Another advantage is that an artwork purchased at auction is more likely to retain its value, and may even increase in value. Consignor’s online auctions offer an optimal venue for the emerging collector. The concept of collecting art should not be intimidating and it is much more accessible than you think!
